Digital Art Standards Provides Guidance for Artwork

Several years ago I was teaching a course at the ASI show in Chicago and I got a question that just kind of stuck with me. "What format should I use to export my artwork so that it works?"

It sounds like a simple enough question and I gave a simple enough answer, "it depends."

You see, there is no magic answer. The user who asked the question just wanted me to give a single format that they could use every time to get perfect results. Unfortunately the correct format depends on who is receiving the file, what they are going to do with the file and the actual contents of your original artwork. There are certainly some formats that are better than others and I do explain the pros and cons of various formats during Boot Camp.

The industry realizes that this is an area of confusion for many users and they have put together the Digital Art Standards to address the issue. They were put together by a committee so that users will have some direction when preparing files. Visit the Web site, download the standards and you should have a clearer idea of how to prepare files going forward.
