Telemarketers and Politicians Just Don't Get It
I'll admit it, I was a telemarketer when I was in college. I worked there for a whole week and was fired because I wouldn't smile as I was driving people crazy. Sorry, I just can't enjoy so despicable.
Normally I don't get a lot of telemarketing calls because I don't have a home phone number. It isn't unlisted, it doesn't exist. I've registered all numbers on the federal do not call list. For those outside the US, it is a database of phone numbers that telemarketers can't call without getting in serious trouble.
Unfortunately our politicans don't have the guts to create useful laws. For example, the law doesn't apply to political calls. So today I got a prerecorded call from some bozo running for local office. He won't get my vote on principal. If you can't pick up the phone yourself, I don't want to hear from you. No prerecorded calls, no calls from someone in your office, you personally. If you don't call personally, I will vote for your opponent. If you are both dumb enough to call me, I'll vote for the independent that has absolutely no chance to win. What part of "do not call" list do they not understand? I don't want any calls! Besides, this is a business number, not a personal number.
Then there is the other large loophole. The list doesn't apply to business numbers. Why not? No, I don't need to talk to someone about a new merchant account for processing credit cards. No, I don't want to talk about my health insurance plan. No, I don't wish to change my phone service. No, I am not going to invest money to the first broker who calls. In fact, I keep a list of everyone who does call and make a point to not ever do business with them.
These companies must have some success with someone. But calling me is a complete waste of everyone's time. If I ask to be on a list, can't you figure out that you are wasting your time and money to call me?
I sure hope that the politicians who don't use telemarketing will win the upcoming elections. Maybe then they'll pass a law with enough teeth to eliminate these unwanted calls. Heck, they might even eliminate the morons who send junk faxes touting worthless unknown stocks. Oh well, that's a rant for another day.

Will they never learn? Thats why I don't have a land line at all. I'm not registered in this county because I recently moved and I don't answer calls from phone numbers I don't know. Directed advertising can work but telemarketers have not learned that its just making people mad.
