Do You Have unleash.com Whitelisted?
There are some problems that arrive in business that can be solved by the business. Then there are others that are somewhat beyond your control. Thanks to the onslaught of spam on the Web, we're faced with a problem and we need your help to solve it.
When we send one of our newsletters, over half of the messages sent are not received. Why is that? It is because spam filters eat them. Occasionally we'll get a complaint from a dedicated reader that they haven't gotten a copy. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about it.
Even worse is when a customer buys a product from us and they don't get it because the e-mail is sent to the spambucket. In the last week, we've had two customers extremely upset with us because they didn't get an e-mail in the timeframe we promise. The problem wasn't that we didn't send the message, it was because the messages were not getting through their filters.
So we need your help. And so do other Web-based companies with whom you do business. You need to learn about whitelists and you need to utilize them. I've provided a link so that you can learn what a whitelist means. You may have spam filtering at the mail server level. Ask the person or company who manages your mail server about this. You may also have it at the client level. For example, Microsoft Outlook has a built-in spam filter in the 2003 and 2007 versions. You may also have some sort of package to provide Internet security that filters e-mail. We use Zone Alarm Pro and it provides such a function.
Regardless of which systems you use, please whitelist us! We'd prefer you whitelist the whole unleash.com domain. At the very least, whitelist orders@unleash.com and foster@unleash.com as these are the two main addresses from which mail is sent.
Some of you use a service that sends a challenge e-mail that a human must interact with in order for the mail to pass. When we send a newsletter, we get hundreds of these in return. Please enter our e-mail addresses as trusted addresses so that we don't have to decipher the CAPTCHA test for so many messages. It is very frustrating when it is the same users mailboxes every single time. Once we've passed the test, we shouldn't have to pass it over and over again. The time it takes to deal with these tests is time that could be spent providing more valuable content to you.
I know spam is a problem. Believe me, I get at least 500 messages a day. But you have to not only use filters, but set them up properly so good mail gets through and spam gets trashed. If you simply use the defaults, you will not get all the mail you want. This means you may not get what you purchased in a timely manner and there just isn't anything we, or other merchants, can do about it. Please, for you and I, set up whitelists!
