Using CorelDRAW to Create a Web Design Template

Let's get one thing out of the way right now. CorelDRAW is not the right tool for creating Web pages, sites, etc. It is great for creating graphics for a Web site. In his latest tutorial video, Tom Knight shows how a combination of CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT and Adobe Dreamweaver can be used to create a Web page template. Notice that a third product is involved that takes the graphics from the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite and puts them together in a Web friendly template.

While this tutorial uses Adobe Dreamweaver as the missing piece of the Web design puzzle, there are a number of other programs out there you can use. I've always been a fan of the HomeSite application that was included with Dreamweaver. The folks who originally created Dreamweaver have created something similar called TopStyle that I am giving an extended test drive to see if it meets my needs as well as HomeSite. So far there are some things I don't like as much and some that I like better. If only I could pick and choose features and put them together in the one product I really want. For a lower cost product than Dreamweaver, I really like NamoWebEditor. If you want free, give Alleycode or Nvu a try. No matter the product you choose, it will create much better code than you'll get from CorelDRAW.
