The Big Announcements

I think it was around two months ago that we promised to make some big announcements on July 2nd. I looked at my calendar and it looks as if the big day is upon us. There are three big things to talk about today.

Last week was the CorelWORLD Conference. It has served the user community for the past eighteen years in various iterations. Rick Altman has decided that last week's CorelWORLD was his last. I didn't want to see the community left without such an event and I had some ideas that I felt could take the conference to new heights. So I'm proud to announce that the inaugural CorelDRAW Unleashed User Conference will be held July 9-12, 2008 at the Pointe South Mountain Resort in Phoenix, Arizona.

This means it will be the hottest conference ever held for CorelDRAW users. If you haven't noticed, the temperature is above 110 degrees right now (that's around 44 Celsius). We'll have plenty of ways to help you keep cool and we'll also have a lot of really hot content to help you get the absolute most from CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, CorelDRAWings and Corel DESIGNER.

As we are still a year away from the conference, there are still a lot of details that we are still putting together. That means the Web site will be updated regularly as the details are finalized. It also means that your opinions can help us to shape the content presented at the conference. Please let us know what you would like to see and we'll do our best to meet the needs of the users as best possible.

Wow, that was a big one. Now for the next big announcement. One thing that I constantly hear is that users are looking for a great resource of tutorials. Of course we feel the Graphics Unleashed Web site has served that well for a number of years. The Web site will still continue to provide great content, but we are adding something to take things to the next level. In mid-October we will produce the very first CorelDRAW Unleashed Magazine. Just like our popular CorelDRAW Unleashed books, it will be an e-magazine delivered in PDF format. We have a lot of experience from producing e-books that we can bring to an electronic magazine so that you have the best experience possible. It will be delivered in a format that makes it easier to read on screen, in a format where you can easily find the content you want and it will be integrated with online content that extends what is covered in the magazine. In short, you'll want to archive every issue so that you can reference it often.

I talked with various people to get advice on the appropriate price to charge. They all suggested at least $10 per issue with some suggesting a much higher price. I was just afraid that many users wouldn't subscribe at any cost and thus would miss out on some great content. So if there is anything crazier than inviting users to Phoenix in July, this is it. Your subscription is absolutely free. All you have to do is supply your e-mail address and we'll notify you when each issue is ready for download.

Because we have so much content on the Graphics Unleashed Web site, I was afraid that the CorelDRAW Unleashed User Conference and CorelDRAW Unleashed Magazine would get lost if we added them to the content already at unleash.com. That leads to the third big announcement, the creation of the CorelDRAW Unleashed Web site. It will be the home of these two new ventures as well as our existing CorelDRAW Unleashed books and the CorelDRAW Unleashed Boot Camps. All of these new products will be keeping me busy. So we will be cutting back on the number of Boot Camps we hold each year. Typically we do 11-12 a year. Starting in 2008, we will do approximately three in the spring and three in the fall. So if you want to take in a Boot Camp, make sure to sign up early as they will sell out even quicker than in the past.

That's all the announcements for now. Don't be surprised if we have even more in the future! Now it is time for me to get to work and deliver the best magazine and the best conference to meet the needs of the best users on the planet...CorelDRAW users.

I would consider those conferences if they were more formal, I don't want anything else but to learn and shmooze about the programs and work related subjects, I don't want picnics or bar-b-q's.
I would like to spend the rest of the time on my own - after all I don't take off from work and fly everyday, so I'll consider it as a mini-vacation...

I don't understand why you think these conferences are not formal. During the training session, we are very, very serious about the training and providing as much information as possible to get the most out of CorelDRAW. After the day is finished, there are optional fun activities. If you would prefer to do your own activities, you are more than welcome.

Greetings.
With the advent of the magazine I wondered if the following, "Power Point is Evil" might be of use to those who use Coreldraw, Corel products or other image creating software. It is a visual lecture , a commentary, with all the subsiduary horrors, that that could be put on disc, and might be of use to those who make visual presentations.
For those I have endeavoured to serve, to help, over the years I have been able to show that the majority of what is displayed is a dis-service to the presenter and boring to the audience. The acknowledgements of my efforts have come from all continents except Antarctica.
The best presentation I ever saw was done using a styrofoam cup, cold water, ice cubes and some material under question. It was all explained with great simplicity as to the cause of a multimillion dollar catastrophe: even to the "uneducated."
Thank you.
