Just a quick exception:
Professional Photo Labs such as White House Custom Color will only accept JPG files. In fact, their recommendation is to save them in Photoshop at Compression Level 10 on a scale that goes to 12.
I do all my work at 16 bit Tiff - ProPhoto and then downsample to 8 Bit Adobe RGB 1998 and then save as JPG to go to print at a lab.
