Weekend Widget: Carrara 7

People often asked whatever happened to the program they knew as Corel DREAM 3D. In order to know what happened, we probably should talk about where it had been. The product was originally called Ray Dream Designer. Corel worked with the developers to create a special version of it to included in the CorelDRAW suite and that was the product known as Corel DREAM 3D. It is a common misconception that Corel "owned" the product. Ray Dream Designer was still developed after Corel last included it and then it was reborn later under the name Carrara.

That brings us to our "widget" of the day: Carrara 7. If you haven't looked at the product since Corel DREAM 3D, you'll be amazed at the realistic rendering quality now available. You can render objects, people, landscapes and all kinds of other models. There are three versions of the software available from the Carrara 3D Express to Carrara 7 to Carrara 7 Pro. Each version adds more features and also bumps up the price a bit. But compared to many of the 3D packages on the market, Carrara is a relative bargain.

And if you are looking for content to render in Carrara, the DAZ3D Web site provides more models and content than anyone could possibly use. For those of you wanting to get into 3D or wanting to go further, give Carrara a look!
