I had to reword this question a little bit. We all would love to see more stuff added to the suite. But with that there is an additional cost to Corel. So they would no doubt charge more if Ventura was included.

For those who don't know Ventura, it is a fantastic publishing tool. Some would compare it to Quark and InDesign, but I don't think that is a good comparison as they aren't publishing tools. Ventura can do page layout, but its strength is laying out longer documents. As an example, I use it to create all of the handouts for my Boot Camps and the CorelDRAW X3 Unleashed book. It does the things some users ask for in CorelDRAW. It has linked style sheets. It numbers pages. It indexes. It creates tables of contents. It links to external images and text. In short, a great product that Corel doesn't develop or at least hasn't developed in over five years. They don't feel there is enough of a marketplace.

I bought Ventura before and I would most likely have used it many times, but I found it too different than Draw and Paint.  I was reading the manual, but it sounded too different and strange.  I feel that we would need an Unleashed book geared towards Corel product users, who are not familiar with all these publishing terms and options...

I do feel the same as you Dave, I have Ventura 8, but never really got into it. Draw is enough for what I do now which is 32 pages at the most. Linked styles and better support for pagination in facing view + more stable linking of images, would fullfill my needs largely.
If I got into longer docs I suppose Ventura would be my choice, but for graphics intensive page-for-page layout, I feel Draw does what I need, and rather easily too.

I feel left out in the cold on this one... I know nothing about it other than with reviews I've read about it. People that use it seem to love it.

Imo, Corel has nothing to lose by including it. It's a rapidly sinking ship, and I'd assume doing nothing on the shelves at Corel.

Throw it in, Charge 20.00 more - maybe Ventura will have a future then.

If they don't include it with Draw 14 - regardless of the surcharge amount they pick, it's probably over for Ventura. This is for the existing version of it. If they want to go head to head with Indesign, they'd have to charge a lot more than 20.00 for development and support.

I'm not too well informed on Ventura either, but... isn't Ventura more like FrameMaker than InDesign and Quark? That is, for really long documents, like books.

Yes, Ventura compares more to Framemaker than the "page" layout tools. Yet it can be used to design pages if you want to do that.

Corel is crazy to not develop Ventura. It is the glue that ties their other products together. It takes text from WordPerfect, vector graphics from CorelDRAW, bitmap graphics from Corel PHOTO-PAINT (or Paint Shop Pro or Painter) and puts them all together in one attractive layout.

The only reason that Ventura hasn't been successful is the absolutely abysmal marketing Corel has provided for it. Their inability to even MENTION the product in the past few years shows just how good it is if the users are still convincing people to use it.

So, whats the reason that Corel ignores it? Must be from some economical point of view. Yet if they promoted it, it would generate some cashflow, wouldn't it?
Or doesn't Corel have any expertise in the application any longer?

I love Ventura, I used it since it came out with Xerox. I would very much like a continuation - or (slight) upgrade. It works very well with all of the original Corel and WordPerfect family. (The latter is also to often forgotten!)
Kind regards, JoostJ

Lars,

Corel refuses to even discuss Ventura so none of us truly know why they ignore it. I'm sure they don't feel the sales justify the cost of development. Yet all of the users are well aware that Corel's marketing efforts have been very poor at best. They never knew how to promote the product. They never truly tried to push it to the CorelDRAW market base. This proposal was put forth over five years ago. Once again, Corel ignored it.

Well written. How come Corel is so clueless when it comes to marketing? I have recently started to see some ads in the pro DTP magazines over here though. It's usually connected with a cashback offer in the middle of the product cycle, to help boosting sales when the interest is low and users are waiting for the next version.
Best regards,
