Vector Studio Part II -- Creating A Double Emboss in Illustrator, CorelDRAW and FreeHand

© 2000 by Gary Priester. All Rights Reserved.

Welcome back to The Vector Studio. Today, or whenever you read this, it might not be today, or even this week for all I know, we will create a double embossed vector effect in Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia FreeHand and CorelDRAW. This is a recessed image and a raised image as you can see here. Each application has its strengths in creating this effect as we shall see. For example, we could cheat in FreeHand 8 and use the built-in Emboss effect from the Xtra Operations palette, as well we might. And in Illustrator or CorelDRAW we could call upon the Adobe Photoshop plug-in filters support, and create the effect using a bitmap. But the name of this column is The Vector Studio, not the Bitmaps Effects Studio, and so, we will create the effect using vector objects.

If there is a technique or effect you'd like to see covered in the future, e-mail me at garypriester@earthlink.net.
