Have you ever spent hours agonizing over what color palette you want to use on your Web site? Here is an incredibly easy and fast way to sort that out.
Take a piece of clip art that you like (or better yet, an image you know you want to use in the site) and load it up into Corel PHOTO-PAINT. Save it off to another filename so you won't inadvertantly destroy your only copy of the file.
Now select Effects | Distort | Pixelate. The default setting is "10," (image at left) but that may be too many colors for you. Just adjust the settings to whatever you feel gives you an optimum number of colors. The image at right uses a setting of 25.
This works just as well with photographs as it does with clipart.
Do all of the colors work well together? That will depend entirely on the subject image used. This may not be the best way nor is it the only way to select your color palette, but it can certainly help put you on the right track without wasting a lot of time.
