As more of us lead increasingly more hectic lives, and more people find opening businesses of their own as a necessity because of the current economic crunch, organizing the details requires some very specific software. For those that think they do not need specific applications to handle their business contacts, or that an address book alone is enough, please think again.
Be it orchestrating a charity event, keeping track of a community social, or even operating your own home based business—even a modest one—at some point you will need to keep track of your contacts. Friends, associates, or just e-mail buddies, keeping tabs on who is where and who gets what can mean the difference between what gets done and what winds up getting left behind. This is where contact management software puts everyone and everything together.
In the process of working on an independent project, I came to see just how important software like this can be. It was then that I was introduced to ACT! At the same time the realization came that this is the kind of software that most users really need even if they are not in business. Although designed with the business owners in mind, there is enough here to justify those not in business having it accessible.
What ACT!, now version 6, does is it allows you to keep a running list of your contacts. You can basically chart who gets what, what you sent, if you need to contact that person again, as well as slew of other features that make it easier to know what types and kinds of information you are exchanging with your contacts and how to keep track of the many details.
The entire program is built upon the contact. Offering a slew of options, from notes, organizing contacts into groups, placing reminders, the entire program allows an incredible amount of information to be stored with each contact. If you are familiar with Outlook, not Outlook Express, the interface has some striking similarities. It also has some striking differences. The major ones being the ability to add information easily to a contact entry without having to clutter your interface. The range of features and functions are impressive.
For those with WinFax Pro and e-mail clients like Outlook, you can integrate your email and fax functions into the application. Making things more convenient, the program has a built-in browser so that you can surf the Net from within the program. With a few moments configuring the program, ACT! has a built in e-mail application.
The added benefit of being able to work with your Palm OS, and other PDA’s is also a nice added touch, as well as integration with your existing databases. The ability to synchronize contacts, keep calendars and activities, as well as templates for business uses, ACT! is about as comprehensive a solution as one can find.
With beefed up scheduling tools, integration with major applications and formats, ACT! can handle those with needs that have far outgrown a simple address book or even Outlook. If you need to keep track of multiple business contacts, or simply associates for civic groups, ACT! can appreciably make your life that much easier. With an easy to comprehend visually striking interface, ACT manages to get the details down pat with this highly effective efficient program.
