The most important concerns of any photographer is making sure that the image looks as good as possible. As simple as this objective is, achieving it in the digital divide is not. With a wealth of controls, options and tools, image correction on the PC is not easy. Sure there are a plethora of tools to achieve this, but many fall short.
With more and more people turning to Photoshop, and the need for crisper properly exposed images on the rise, finding a simple solution to the problem of correcting images is not easy. While Photoshop comes armed with a full arsenal of tools to deal with image correction, it is here that the problem rests. There are so many tools included with Photoshop that correcting an image becomes a task that can only be accomplished by a digital artist in complete mastery of the tools. For experts, this is a great thing. For designs dealing with time constraints and those with out the expertise, image correction can be a real nightmare.
Coming to the rescue, AutoFX, a major name in Photoshop Plug—Ins, has produced a tool that is designed to make image correction a one step operation. What differentiates this plug—in from others is that it can stand alone as well as be operated from within a host like Photoshop. This offers a true flexibility that other plug—ins simply have not addressed. As long as your application can support Adobe Photoshop plug—ins, you should have no real issues using AutoEye 2.0 with your application. Although the site mentions that it is compatible with Photoshop versions 3 through 6, I had no difficulty installing it under version 7. So I doubt if you will either.
Not unlike other plug—in applications, Auto Eye 2.0 has a distinct interface. I have a strong feeling you are either going to love it, or hate the design. Following neither the conventions of Photoshop or Windows, the tool sets and their arrangements are unique to AutoEye and the entire AutoFX software line. Again, it does take some getting accustomed to in order to appreciate this arrangement.
Unlike some who have been critical, I cannot fault the aesthetics of AutoEye. It has something of a “dreamy” fantasy quality that makes it seem less like a computer application and more like a game. It is as if Stevie Nicks took to developing software. That is about the best way I can describe it. For someone like myself who looks at interfaces all of the time, I really found little distracting about the interface.
The only issue that you may have with Auto Eye is that it is filled with options. For an application that offers one button adjustments, there is a sea of options to chose from in the main window. Mercifully, you can obtain the desired effects using just one button, or two. It just seems interesting that a program that offers one step image correction would also include a full complement of adjustment tools that really feel like a totally independent application rather than a plug—in.
For the perpetual tweaker of images, I can imagine having that versatility is a real asset. If nothing else you can certainly adjust, tweak and probe to your heart’s content here. Aside from those minor issues, AutoEye 2.0 is a very capable very complete application. If you have ever wasted hours and hours trying to adjust balance and tone only to see your work look washed out, AutoEye is an excellent one step stop to image perfection.
If you have felt intimidated by image correction, or do not have the time to make your images look their best, AutoFX AutoEye 2.0 is a superb plug—in that can get the job done. Rather that poring over tools, filters and adjustment levels, AutoEye makes the process a true no brainer. For the designer on the go, the serious digital shutter bug, or even the photo dillentate with less demanding needs, this is one plug—in well worth having. Once you use it and see the difference you will wonder how you lived without it for a moment.
Certainly you can adjust and tune images in high end image editors and painting applications. However, if you don’t have the time to spend, and you want expert results on the fly, this is one of the best solutions currently available. When you factor in price points, ease of use and practicality, I have no problem recommending this application to all who need to work in the digital divide. There is a Mac version too.
