To be honest, I never gave mice, not the furry kind but the digital kind, a great deal of thought. I just picked one up, used whatever came with my PC and that was the proverbial end of that as far as I was concerned. Considering which mice to use has never been an issue. Well, how wrong was I? This time, I was way off and Logitech made me realize the error in not paying attention to the mouse you use. As I just learned, a mouse can make a world of computing difference.
I have not been this excited by a product since Corel corrected WordPerfect and Sharp came up with a decent little DV camcorder. No joke, I was so totally taken with the appearance, look and feel of the MX 310, I almost tore the box apart to get to the mouse inside.
All excitement aside, I normally used whatever mouse came with my PC. Usually this was some nondescript little device that was functional, but nothing more than that. With my current system, the mouse included was an optical one, was at best functional, but no more than that. It was about as ergonomic as a brick. If that were not bad enough, it had an irritating clicking sound when you depressed either the left or right buttons. Until I adopted the MX 310, I did not realize just how ordinary, and how uncomfortable, my old mouse really was. In contrast, I just wondered how and why I never ditched it for something new. Then again, one of the great joys of using new devices is realizing what really works for you.
Being both an artist, writer and constant PC user, I am rather hard on mice. The previous one I used showed signs of visible wear and tear as evidenced by the paint that was vanishing from the surface. Considering that input devices are the main way we communicate with our systems, mice are not so much little accessories, but an integral part of the entire computing experience. So it does pay to pick a mouse that feels good, works well and basically gets the job done.
As far as appearances go, the Logitech MX 310 will look good with the latest PC or last years system. Much like the QuickCam that I am totally pleased with for its integration with my HP unit, the Logitech mouse looks as if it were made to fit with my system. In a cool black with a silver metallic top, this little mouse is all dressed up and so ready to go.
The advantages of the MX do not end with good looks. The small back button that rests between the left and right main buttons allows you to switch between programs. This inventive feature allows you to switch between programs without moving your mouse here and there. This is one of those thoughtful features that makes computing just that much easier.
The small left and right black buttons on either side of the mouse permit easier surfing on Web pages. Like the program switching button, this convenience feature will probably get a real workout from serious Web surfers.
To me the real advantage of a peripheral like this is the way it feels when you wrap your hand around it. The contours of the mouse are such that it simply "feels right" when you use it and that makes a world of difference when you spend long hours working on documents or creating designs.
On the level of user friendliness, the mouse has a whisper quiet click when depressed and the responsiveness is excellent. Also included with the mouse is an adapter that allows you to utilize your traditional mouse port instead of the USB port. This is great for those that do not want to take up their USB ports with a mouse, or wish to flip back and forth between various systems and configurations. Including this device with the mouse is just one more level of convenience that is logical and perfect for those that want to take this mouse with them. Also, for Mac users, yes, this mouse plays well with the Apple realm. Which is yet another good reason for considering the Logitech mouse.
From the sharp contemporary looks of the mouse, to the ease of use, Logitech has created a real winner with the MX 310. Easy to use, packed with convenience features and simply put, well considered, if you are using a mouse that feels like a brick and sounds like a million sledge hammers, do consider this optical mouse as a real indispensable option. I will never settle for whatever mouse a computer maker throws my way again. With Logitech around, having an ergonomic feature packed mouse that works well is no longer a quest for the unobtainable. The MX 310 should, and no doubt will, work well for most users. Once you see it, pick it up and hook it up, you should be as excited and hooked on it as I.
