Whirl Laser Mouse with Anti-Gravity Comfort Pivot
Company: Smartfish |
The idea that one mouse suits all is like one size fits all. The reality is that no one solution works for everyone. Individuals have preferences, and when it comes to mice everyone has their preferences.
The choices available in mice are huge. With so many out there, and being generally satisfied with the available selection, I was skeptical about yet another entry in the mouse sweepstakes.
However, after using this device, the notion of a more ergonomic way of handling the mouse does have an impact.
The premise behind the ErgoMotion is that our hands and wrists need a variety of motions in order to operate without incurring fatigue or injury. Working on developing a new mouse that takes into consideration how many of us use one already, and the structural design of the human body, the creators of the ErgoMotion Mouse have devised a mouse that permits more varied motions while the mouse is in motion and at rest.
The ability for the mouse to allow more movement than your standard issue one is the result of the mouse resting on a pivot connected to a base. While your hand is holding the mouse in a stationary position, your hand and wrist can move bit sideways and up and down permitting you to have varied positions for your hand.
On the surface this seems like a slight development. However, it is in this one detail where the mouse becomes a real comfort to use. It is when you are at rest that you realize your hand is assuming a more natural stance than the static pose enforced by your stand issue mouse.
That one bit of flexibility means greater comfort for your hand, and less strain on your arms.
The form of the device is comfortable. Sporting a two button mouse, and minimalist approach to design, the ErgoMotion is aesthetically pleasing, and handles well. The only caveat is that if you are familiar with multiple function mice and a plethora of buttons, it may take some getting use to adjusting to a mouse that is more basic in function.
The device does not ship with drivers or specialty functions. The mouse does work with Windows, and works well with Windows 7 and is also able to operate with the Mac OS.
In terms of feel, construction and use, and the mouse has a battery life of about ten months—depending on use and time you spend so consider this a rough figure. The mouse also has a convenient to locate off and on switch to save energy.
Ambidextrous, so left hand users are not left out, and arriving with a pivotal base, there is much to like here and certainly a more enjoyable mouse experience. This device utilizes a USB port and cannot operate with the standard mouse ports found on earlier systems. An added feature is that the USB connector is very small and can be stored with the mouse's base removing the likelihood of losing it in transit.
As an all-around solid device for PC use, the Smartfish mouse should be on your short list when looking for a comfortable mouse. If you can live without the bells and whistles of other mice, this is a solid forward looking mouse that takes an innovative approach to an established way of communicating with your PC, netbook, laptop or touch screen.
