Finding a good, solid utility was once an easy proposition. All you had to do was visit Symantec and purchase their suite. The days of the simple choice in utility suites are a thing of the past. Considering the current crop of offerings from Symantec, their hegemony over PC maintenance, at least in some areas, may not be absolute. V com, in my mind, has done a superb job in providing an affordable, practical and functional suite of utilities that are helpful useful, and get my nod of approval.
Vcom just released a new version of their all-in-one utility suite, System Suite 5. For those familiar with the previous version, aside from a few cosmetic changes, the basic program has at least remained more or less the same. In this case, that is a good thing. In fact it is welcome. Unlike some suites that include a few functions, or sell them as separate entities, Vcom ships with a solid anti-virus program, firewall, and a host of utilities that optimize your system. To date, I know of few suites that are as comprehensive as this one. In fact, I am not sure that there is one as well rounded as this. When looking for an all in one application that can care for all of the basic needs of PC upkeep, Vcom has done it all.
While McAfee and Symantec do an excellent job in specific areas, Vcom more or less offers you the same protections, and clean up operations, that others offer but in one convenient package. For those on a budget, or those that simply do not want to customize their protection, Vcom is a great one size fits all solution to PC protection and privacy on the Web.
Included with this set of PC tools are power desk and recovery commander as free bonus applications. No doubt, they do sweeten the deal, but the heart and soul of System Suite is the value and comprehensiveness of the functions offered. For those that are skeptical, I have run the program for some time, and it actually corrected a complex interface issue I was having with Yahoo Messenger that simply would not go away. For those not running the more stable Windows XP, I know your life will be easier with this super offering.
The various sets, features and power of Vcom’s offering is simply put good solid protection at a good price.
Not too much has changed on the surface, but that does not mean that refinement lacks virtues. Vcom has updated and improved on an already solid product. For newbies and those on restricted budgets, hands down, Vcom’s ability to offer anti-virus, firewall, mail washer and other utilities makes this a very very sweet deal.
For those that have preferences, for example those that love Zone Alarm, and those that adore Norton Anti-Virus, I can see where this suite may not seem all that great. For those frustrated with the limited offerings in Symantec’s systems suite, as well as problems with configurability, Vcom has much more to offer. It is great to see the application updated, enriched and ready.
This is a standout product.
On the other hand, I do like Norton Anti-Virus, and of course McAfee’s Quick Clean, Firewall and Spam Killer. Not to leave out Zone Alarm, which is also solid, I do think that Vcom with regards to other aspects of PC maintenance is well worth looking into even if you like to assemble a bits and pieces mix and match approach. For those that simply want to buy a product and forget about it, Vcom is a real necessity for those that need protection but do not have the time or resources to play mix and match. As an all around performer, Vcom’s System Suite 5 earns high marks.
