Product Description
In modern, surround sound driven audio universe where home theater enthusiasts hear airplanes fly overhead and bombs exploding around them, one might think that mere Stereo is old fashioned. But don't be mislead - humans have only two ears and stereo is still a significant life form. The case in point: the RX-4105. It's actually an update of the market leading RX-4100/4103. Rated at 100 watts, Sherwood Electronic has reduced distortion significantly. It's now less than 0.20% from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The RX-4105 has a good AM/FM tuner with the ability to pre-set up to 30 favorite stations. It has inputs for 4 audio sources to accommodate your sound gear. And the sound is phenomenal - as you'd expect from a company that dates its own existence to before stereo's birth. And the RX-4105 has at least one unexpected grace: the ability to independently select up to two sets of loudspeakers via the supplied remote control. (Audio purists will be pleased to know that this relay-controlled switching puts the speakers in parallel, maintaining their individual sound qualities.)
Product Description
Sherwood's incredibly affordable RX-4105 offers integrated preamplification and amplification, inputs for numerous audio source components, and advanced radio tuning and station access. The receiver delivers 100 watts RMS per channel x 2 for strong, clear sound across the audible spectrum--even at low listening levels. The company has lowered the amplifier's distortion relative to the previous model (the RX-4105), to less than 0.08 percent, while also giving the receiver a new layout borrowed from its higher-end components. The RX-4105 uses totally discrete amplifiers for all channels (TDAS) to maintain its high power and low distortion. Use the receiver's A and B clip-type speaker outputs to power 2 different rooms, or to biwire a pair of speakers for more efficient amplification (with A outputs driving the woofers, for instance, and the B outputs driving the tweeters--make sure your speakers are compatible if this is a key feature for you). The receiver also offers a handy 25-key remote control and switching for 2 pair of loudspeakers. Audio inputs switch between and amplify up to 4 additional components, including 2 requiring both inputs and outputs (such as a cassette deck and a VCR). The built-in AM/FM tuner features 30 station presets and auto station setup. Other features include bass and treble tone controls, a dimmable fluorescent display, and a .25-inch headphone jack for private listening. What's in the Box Sherwood RX-4105 receiver, remote control, AC power supply cord, FM indoor antenna, AM loop antenna set, and owner's manual.

- 80 watts RMS x 2 (into 8 ohms); 250 watts RMS x 1 (into 8 ohms) with bridged mono use
- A/B speaker selector allows multi-room amplification; uses low-distortion toroidal power supply
- Signal-sensing auto-on/off and 12-volt trigger ports (in and out) for custom configuration
- High- and Low-level inputs for maximum flexibility
- Measures 16.5 x 3.5 x 14 inches (W x H x D)
|
Product Description
A terrific choice for a remarkably affordable system upgrade or building block, the AudioSource Amp 200 high-current stereo power amplifier offers 80 watts RMS per channel x 2 or, in bridged mono mode, up to 250 watts x 1 (into 8-ohm speakers in both cases). Now you can scale your listening to match your budget: use either 1 amplifier or 2 for stereo sound or 5 or more in concert for full-blown home-theater excitement--perfect for your DVDs, multichannel DTV broadcasts, or high-resolution audio formats like DVD-Audio and SACD. Keep in mind that this is an amplifier only, with no volume control or onboard surround processing (though it does offer independent adjustable output controls for each channel). It's designed for use with a stereo preamplifier or a surround receiver offering preamplifier outputs. Making the move from 5.1- to 6.1- or 7.1-channel surround sound? If your receiver has preamp outputs for all channels, there's no need to replace your 5.1 surround receiver. Just feed the additional center or surround signals to a strategically positioned Amp 200. Connections consist of a choice of RCA (line-level) or clip-type (speaker-level) inputs and banana-plug-friendly binding-post speaker terminals for outputs. There's also set of stereo (left/right) RCA passthrough jacks for use in a daisy-chain setup. The amp works with 12-volt power-on/-off circuitry and also features a signal-sensing circuit for automatic power-on/-off, making it as ideal for custom installers as for end users. Its A and B speaker outputs let you power speakers in your main room, a second room, or both rooms simultaneously. The amplifier's toroidal power supply keeps distortion extremely low (less than 0.04 percent).

- 2-channel integrated amplifier/receiver with 100 watts per channel
- Discrete output transistors offer better fidelity than receivers using conventional integrated circuits
- 20 FM and 10 AM radio station presets; includes universal remote control
- 1 switched AC power output conserves wall sockets and conveniently powers up an additional component simultaneously
- Measures 16.9 x 5.2 x 11.9 inches (W x H x D)
|
Product Description
Home theater may be the rage, but there's no getting around the need for affordable, high-quality music playback, and Sony's STR-DE197 stereo receiver can be a huge help in that department. The integrated amplifier pumps out 100 watts per channel across both its 2 channels and uses discrete output transistors--that is, transistors in place of cheaper and lower-quality integrated-circuit chips--to ensure high-quality music presentations. The receiver features an FM/AM tuner with 30 station presets (20 FM, 10 AM) and a UniCommander remote control with phosphorescent glow keys for easy access, even in the dark. Separate A and B speaker outputs (stereo left/right) let you listen to the same program across two sets of speakers placed in different parts of the house. There's no phono input, but the unit's 4 stereo analog audio (left/right RCA) inputs accommodate, for instance, a cassette deck, a VCR, your cable-box outputs, or a DVD player. (Make sure your television has sufficient inputs for the number of video sources whose audio you plan to route through the receiver.) A bass-boost circuit enhances your program's low frequencies for greater musical or cinematic input. A switched AC outlet lets you plug another device into the receiver, conserving wall sockets and powering up the plugged devices at the same time as the receiver. When the receiver powers on and off, so also will the component plugged into the power outlet, provided you leave its power set to "on." Listening at night? Plug into the receiver's .25-inch headphone jack so you won't wake the family or neighbors. What's in the Box Receiver, RM-US185 UniCommander remote control, remote batteries (2 AA), FM wire antenna, AM loop antenna, user's manual, and warranty information.

JVC RX-8010V features premium performance with its high current power supply capable of handling 4 ohm loads, and a new high performance Motorola DSP. The new 24-bit DSP is capable of executing 150 million instructions per second (MIPS). This mode can be used only when both of the front speakers are. When you press the play button on a connected component or on its own remote control, the receiver automatically turns on and changes the source to the component. On the other hand, if you select a new source on the receiver or on the remote control, the selected component begins playing immediately. In both cases, the previously selected source continues playing without sound for a few seconds. RX-8010V also allows you to play your MP3 files directly from your PC through a front USB input. Product Description
So you've got the surround sound...so you think! Did you know there are codes within movie videos and even TV dramas? If you have a system that can read those codes, then BAM! You've got a soundtrack! The code amplifies the true surround sound capabilities that the movie has in the theater. It's not just your system, it's what the director had in mind! Plus, Sony kicks it up a bit by returning the surround sound control to you, with equal power to all five channels: Left, Right, Center, Left-Rear and Right-Rear get the same power output, which you need for theater-quality Dolby Digital and dts multi-channel surround sound. Also, some home theaters give up surround control. But with this surround sound YOU retain comprehensive control.
Product Description
This tuner offers 4-ohm/8-ohm switching, which enables reliable operation with low-impedance speakers, and discrete output transistors that offer high-speed, high-current capacity and low distortion. The tuner has equal power to all five channels, meaning that left, right, center, left rear, and right rear all get the same power--important for theater-quality Dolby Digital and DTS multichannel surround sound. Dolby Pro Logic decoding brings home all the excitement and emotional impact of movie soundtracks. The system decodes and amplifies the surround channels already encoded in many movie videocassettes, TV dramas, and sports broadcasts. The tuner also features a fluorescent display and AM/FM random presets that store AM and FM stations in any combination. The preprogrammed remote lets you operate many types of non-Sony equipment.

- 4 composite-video inputs, 2 outputs; 2 digital-audio inputs (1 coaxial, 1 optical); spring-clip speaker terminals
|
Product Description
The HTR-5540 AV receiver puts high-end home theater well within the grasp of affordability, offering the convenience of DVD-Audio-ready six-channel analog inputs alongside the latest 6.1-channel surround processing and premium Yamaha sound technologies. When hooked up with the digital-audio output from a DVD-Video player or digital satellite receiver, the 75 watts-per-channel HTR-5540 handles 5.1-channel surround decoding for both major formats, Dolby Digital and DTS. In addition, the HTR-5540 processes Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES, which create an even more expansive soundfield through the use of a center-rear surround channel, totaling six discrete full-range channels in addition to the LFE (low-frequency effects) channel: left, center, right, and left, center, and right surround. Non-Dolby Digital and DTS sources can benefit from surround processing, too. With enhanced directional steering over standard four-channel Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Pro Logic II provides five channels of surround processing from any stereo source--whether that's a TV broadcast, VHS tapes, or your favorite CDs, cassettes, and LPs. Pro Logic II delivers full-bandwidth stereo surround channels with 40 dB of left-right separation. A key benefit from a Yamaha receiver, of course, is Yamaha's proprietary signal processing, including Cinema DSP (digital soundfield processing), which creates aural "imaging" that not only makes your home sound like a theater, but also sounds better than most movie theaters. Based on a wealth of measured data in studios and halls, Cinema DSP is designed to bring out the full potential of movie sound mixes, reproducing them the way directors and sound engineers intended. And, when you're listening to multichannel presentations late at night, you'll appreciate Silent Cinema, which simulates 5.1-channel listening through a pair of ordinary 2-channel headphones (not included). Silent Cinema uses unique parameters for each soundfield to ensure accurate headphone representations of each soundfield. Then there are the six-channel DVD-Audio-ready inputs mentioned above. "If DVD-Audio is so high-tech," you might wonder, "why do I need analog inputs to appreciate it?" You need them because, for reasons of data density, DVD-Audio players perform their own digital-to-analog conversion, passing high-resolution analog signals on to your amplifier. (And analog is, after all, what your amp feeds your speakers.) DVD-Audio can deliver up to six channels of discrete, full-frequency sound at greater-than-CD resolution (24 bits, 96 kHz sampling rate versus 16 bits, 44.1 kHz for CD), and some discs will exploit the chance to offer an ultra-high-resolution, stereo-only 192 kHz sampling rate. In stereo or surround, the sound from DVD-Audio is packed with detail, yet it's smoother and sweeter than the sound from even the best standard CD players. The HTR-5540 accommodates decoded DVD-A signals and routes them to the appropriate speakers in your surround system. The versatile unit offers five video input connections (with four S-video inputs), five fixed and assignable digital-audio inputs (great for DSS, CD, laserdisc, gaming consoles, and minidisc), and front-panel input connections for your camcorder or other spontaneous hookup. The HTR-5540 comes with a preset remote control. Finally, the HTR-5540 benefits from Yamaha's Digital ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) build philosophy. ToP-ART's goal is to maximize digital quality while minimizing analog circuitry. The culmination of the best digital engineering and design possible, it brings together several key elements to create the best-sounding, easiest-to-use A/V components available.

Product Description
The JVC RX-6000VBK is ready for state-of-the-art surround sound processing with built-in Dolby Digital and DTS Surround Sound decoding. This receiver features 100 watts x 5 min. (two front, one center, two rear speakers) RMS, both channels driven into into 8 ohms, 1kHz, 0.8% THD. Digital Acoustics Processor (DAP) with five preset sound fields (Theater/Hall/Live Club/Pavillion/Dance Club) digitally recreates these venues in your own home. AV COMPU LINK provides simple one touch operation between your JVC audio and video components. To connect the latest in digital audio sources, JVC provides two assignable digital inputs (one optical and one coaxial) for additional audio enjoyment.
Product Description
Today's audio-video receivers incorporate more performance features than older receivers and they often do so at a better price. JVC's RX-6000VBK is an example of this trend. It decodes both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround, performs S-video switching, and delivers 100 watts across five channels--as well as offers six DSP modes for music and movies and a whopping 45 FM/AM station presets. The RX-6000VBK also has sophisticated control settings such as a variable crossover and a bass-management system, which will maximize the performance of any home-theater speaker system. The RX-6000VBK gets things off on the right foot with its intuitively arranged front panel. A larger-than-normal display window dominates the top half of the faceplate, while directly beneath it sit large, bar-shaped buttons for selecting sources, DSP (digital signal processing), and surround modes. Perhaps best of all, we like JVC's multifunction cursor, which controls bass and treble, subwoofer level, balance, speaker settings for surround, speaker delay settings, crossover frequency, dynamic range, and tuner presets. You also use it to assign digital inputs to the components of your choice. We're pleased that the RX-6000VBK offers S-video switching (DVD only, not for VHS) and coaxial as well as optical digital-audio inputs. We prefer coaxial and recommend you use this input for your DVD player, providing you have the output to match. On the downside, the RX-6000VBK lacks a front-panel video input, which is handy if you're a serious camcorder user. Another feature absent is 5.1-channel direct analog inputs--probably a tradeoff to maintain the low price. Since the receiver offers Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, this isn't a serious liability, but multichannel inputs offer the security of accommodating future surround formats. The RX-6000VBK's sound is clear, with a generally good balance, though it does veer slightly toward emphasizing the midrange and treble and has a tight if lean bass response. It successfully resolves instrumental textures and ambient cues. Through the RX-6000VBK, vocals sound precise and articulate, something we always welcome with music and something obviously important with DVD movies as well. Finally, JVC's Compu Link lets you control other JVC components with the RX-6000VBK's remote. All in all, this is a fine receiver. While it lacks 5.1-channel direct inputs, it does have top-of-the-line DTS decoding, S-video switching, and a coaxial digital input. At this price, it's a strong value. --Wayne Garcia Pros: - Clean, open sound
- S-video switching
- Coaxial digital input
- Controls are easy to navigate
Cons: - No 5.1-channel inputs
- No front-panel video inputs
Product Description
JVC's RX-6000VBK Dolby Digital/DTS surround receiver provides 100 watts per channel to all five main channels and has an AM/FM tuner with a memory for 30 FM and 15 AM stations. Assignable optical and coaxial digital audio inputs provide flexibility for hooking up devices such as a DVD player, a CD player/recorder, or a minidisc player/recorder. Dolby Digital and DTS surround decoding give you five full-range channels and a subwoofer channel (the ".1"), letting you enjoy the most spectacular theater sound at home when you are watching movies and television broadcasts (or when listening to DTS 5.1-channel surround CDs). Dolby Pro Logic produces left, center, right, and monaural surround information from countless VHS tapes, DVDs, and TV broadcasts. The RX-6000VBK also offers 3D-Phonic virtual surround sound (which simulates surround through only two speakers) and five of JVC's own Digital Acoustic Processor surround settings. - Dolby Digital and DTS decoding
- 5.1-channel analog inputs
- 100 watts per channel
- 32-bit DSP with 27 acoustic environments
- 8-function input selector with phono input
|
Product Description
The STR-DE835 is the best example we've seen of a home-theater product that uses recent technological advances to deliver great quality and features at a near-budget price. With this model, you get decoding for all major surround-sound formats (Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic, and DTS), 5.1-channel analog inputs to accommodate the use of an external decoder for these or other surround formats, inputs for four video and three audio sources (including a phono or turntable input), three optical inputs and one coaxial digital input, and a host of Sony-developed surround modes for processing one- or two-channel program material. The flip side of using a powerful, full-featured surround amp is often a detailed, head-scratching setup process. The STR-DE835 can go both ways. To get it up and running is a very simple matter: plug in your components, select which source to watch or listen to, and sit back and enjoy its 100-watt-per-channel sound. A button found on both the front panels and the nearly full-function remote labeled "2CH," or two-channel, is your ready-made shortcut to auditioning straight, unprocessed left/right stereo from any of your input sources. When using the digital inputs, the receiver automatically selects the correct listening mode for the incoming signal (DTS, Dolby Pro Logic, and any of the variants of Dolby Digital). With certain components, however--such as DVD and possibly CD--you may wish to use both analog and digital outputs. While surround-sound signals such as Dolby Digital and DTS tend to be transmitted digitally and decoded by the receiver, certain music-oriented DVDs have high-resolution digital content (with 96-kHz/24-bit signals) that require digital-to-analog (D-to-A) conversion upstream from this surround receiver (and most others). When listening to these sources--or to CD players with higher-caliber D-to-A conversion than this receiver employs--it's best to listen through the analog, rather than the digital, outputs of your source components. This brings us to the only real drawback of the remote: while you can use it to switch between different components, you can't cycle through the different inputs for any one component. The remote (Remote Commander RM-PP402) is otherwise well designed and controls a host of Sony and non-Sony products. More advanced operations require careful perusal of the STR-DE835's well-written manual, and configuring the surround modes is one of them. An internally generated test tone helps adjust the relative levels of the center and surround channels (which you can do right from your listening position). To compensate for the fact that the center channel is often slightly closer to the listening position than the left/right main speakers, many receivers let you delay the sound from the center channel to keep it aligned with the sound arriving from the other front speakers. The STR-DE835 doesn't let you do that, but it does let you tell it how far you're sitting from each of your speakers, and it makes the appropriate internal adjustments for each. This unit boasts 27 surround modes (reverberation settings traditionally titled Hall, Stadium, or even Jazz and Rock), and Sony's Digital Cinema Sound puts other units with this feature to shame. First, the STR-DE835 contains real surround modes; the music plays in front and reverberates through each speaker in your surround setup. Second, Sony allows you to adjust the parameters of many of the sound fields, including aspects such as effect level, wall type, and screen depth. This degree of user control extends into other areas as well: The STR-DE835 offers dynamic-range compression for minimizing volume peaks (for quieter night viewing or listening), and you can adjust the amount of compression the unit employs. As to sound quality, the receiver boasts a wide and detailed soundstage with no tizz (displeasing peaks in the voice range) or glare (broad overaccentuation) in the high frequencies. Discrete output transistors provide the receiver with high-speed, high-current capacity and keep distortion to a minimum. The unit also delivers good low-level support for the bass. Small increments in the volume control from the remote are perfect for when you want the sound level just a touch louder or quieter. And it's always nice to see a phono stage in modern receivers, and the one aboard the STR-DE835 is of higher quality than many. The unit's only other drawback that its speaker terminals are of unequal size. This might not be an issue for you, depending on your speaker cables, but if you already own standard-size banana-plug-terminated cables, you'll be disappointed to find that the center and surround terminals are too small for your plugs. Stick with bare-wire cables or use small banana plugs on this one. Tuning will likely require use of the supplied antenna, but beyond that, setting (and naming) the preset stations is simple. The STR-DE835 can automatically scan stations or you can enter them by frequency (e.g., FM 103.7). You can set up to 30 presets, divided between AM and FM, using either of the above methods. In all, the STR-DE835 is a nothing short of a marvel of modern technology. If you're into features and flexibility, this receiver has your name written all over it. Pros: - Amazing features for the price
- Great sound
- Abundant processing power
- Future-ready design
Cons: - Speaker terminals are unequal in size
- Remote does not perform all essential functions
- Learning curve for using all the features

Harman Kardon AVR65 Surround Receiver
By: Harman Kardon
Our price:
- Dolby Digital and DTS onboard
- Automatically switches to correct digital-processing format
- Six-channel direct inputs for future expansion
- 75 watts per channel (stereo); 65 watts per channel (surround)
- Programmable multiproduct remote control

Product Description
The Harman AVR 65 Audio/Video Surround Sound Receiver utilizes the Crystal Circuit for the most advanced digital signal processing, including Dolby Digital and DTS. The AVR 65 provides a combination of power, performance and control unmatched by any other brand. It provides high current capability (+/- 35 amps) and ultrawide-bandwidth (8Hz - 80kHz) amplifier design for maximum performance from digital and analog sources. The AVR65 provides a combination of power, performance, and control unmatched by any other brand.
Product Description
Harman Kardon's top-of-the-line AVR65 surround receiver is a shining example of HK's long-standing tradition of mating useful, creative features with outstanding sonic quality. The AVR65 delivers knock-out dynamics, delicate imaging, deep bass, and clear, extended high frequencies, showing sincere consideration for stereo devotees and home-theater enthusiasts alike. And with nearly every known home-theater convenience on board--from Dolby Digital and DTS surround processing to bass-management and six-channel analog inputs for current and future surround formats--the AVR65 ranks among the best available surround receivers. Setup, ever an issue with home theater, proved relatively painless with the AVR65. Rear-panel inputs and outputs are all clearly marked, and--unlike some surround receivers--most essential functions can be accessed through front-panel controls rather than merely through the remote. The remote can control many other non-Harman products in addition to the AVR65, but it takes a careful reading of the well-written manual to set this up. The AVR65 automatically senses the type of digital surround encoding in use and adjusts to accommodate it. One caveat about the digital processing is the 48kHz limitation on the digital input. If your DVD player can output sampling rates up to 96kHz (the DVD-video maximum), this output will not be usable with the AVR65. However, the AVR65 does offer six-channel analog inputs to accept decoded digital signals from DVD-video or the coming 192kHz, 24-bit DVD-audio format. To further "future-proof" the AVR65, Harman has designed the model with two other unique analog features: High Current Capability (+/- 40 Amps) and Ultrawide Bandwidth (8Hz - 80kHz). Because loudspeaker impedance (the inherent resistance to the incoming voltage) varies with frequency, the amplifier may need to deliver, at moments, up to six times the current load required for the speaker's impedance rating; the AVR65's High Current Capability does just that. Harman's Ultrawide Bandwidth offers linear frequency response to around 80kHz, well beyond the range of human hearing. This reduces undesirable phase shifts within the audible spectrum and increases "headroom," the amplifier's ability to reproduce complex, dynamic transients (such as cymbal crashes) with greater accuracy. The benefits of these features came through clearly in our testing. Other features of the AVR65 include a bass-management system, six-channel analog preamp outputs, an Advanced Crystal DSP circuit with additional fancy surround processing, an on-screen control system, multiple AV inputs (including S-Video), a multiroom control system, and all-discrete amplifier circuitry. Pros: - Easy to use
- High-quality sound
- Multiple surround configurations
- Future-ready design
Cons: - When manually fading out, the volume control cuts to silence unnaturally early
- No dedicated level control for headphone jack
Product Description
The best value in audio/video receiver technology available. The AVR 65 utilizes the Crystal Circuit for the most advanced digital signal processing, including Dolby Digital and DTS. The AVR 65 provides a combination of power, performance, and control unmatched by any other brand.

|
Product Description
The HTR-5560 AV receiver puts high-end home theater well within the grasp of affordability, offering the convenience of DVD-Audio-ready six-channel analog inputs alongside the latest 6.1-channel surround processing and premium Yamaha sound technologies. When hooked up with the digital-audio output from a DVD-Video player or digital satellite receiver, the 75 watts-per-channel HTR-5560 handles 5.1-channel surround decoding for both major formats, Dolby Digital and DTS. In addition, the HTR-5560 also processes Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES, which create an even more expansive soundfield through the use of a center-rear surround channel, totaling six discrete full-range channels in addition to the LFE (low-frequency effects) channel: left, center, right, and left, center, and right surround. Non-Dolby Digital and DTS sources can benefit from surround processing, too--with enhanced directional steering over standard four-channel Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Pro Logic II provides five channels of surround processing from any stereo source--whether that's a TV broadcast, VHS tapes, or your favorite CDs, cassettes, and LPs. Based on a wealth of measured data in real studios and halls, Cinema DSP is designed to bring out the full potential of movie sound mixes, reproducing them the way directors and sound engineers intended. Then there's the six-channel DVD-Audio-ready inputs mentioned above. "If DVD-Audio is so high-tech," you might wonder, "why do I need analog inputs to appreciate it?" That's because, for reasons of data density, DVD-Audio players perform their own digital-to-analog conversion, passing high-resolution analog signals on to your amplifier. (And analog, after all, is what your amp feeds your speakers.) DVD-Audio can deliver up to six channels of discrete, full-frequency sound at greater-than-CD resolution (24 bits, 96 kHz sampling rate versus 16 bits, 44.1 kHz for CD), and some discs will exploit the chance to offer an ultra-high-resolution, stereo-only 192 kHz sampling rate. In stereo or surround, the sound from DVD-Audio is packed with detail, yet smoother and sweeter from than the sound from even the best standard CD players. The HTR-5560 accommodates decoded DVD-A signals and routes them to the appropriate speakers in your surround system. The versatile unit offers five video input connections (with four S-video inputs), five fixed and assignable digital-audio inputs (great for DSS, CD, laserdisc, gaming consoles, or minidisc), and front-panel input connections for your camcorder or other spontaneous hookup. The HTR-5560 comes with a preset remote control. Last, but certainly not least, the HTR-5560 benefits from Yamaha's Digital ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) build philosophy. ToP-ART's goal is to maximize digital quality while minimizing analog circuitry. The culmination of the best digital engineering and design possible, it brings together several key elements to create the best-sounding, easiest-to-use A/V components available.

Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description Take the next step in home theater performance with the Yamaha HTR-5930 digital surround receiver, which boasts 5.1 channels (110 watts x 5) of amplification and a host of high-end features. The receiver is built around Yamaha's proprietary surround sound technology and a powerful 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter that maximizes the signal quality, ensuring that everything from two-channel audio sources to 5.1-channel DVDs sound rich, immersive, and dynamic. Plus, the receiver's wide 10 Hz to 100 kHz frequency range helps digital audio sources like DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD reach their full potential.
| Movie and music buffs will dig the HTR-5930's Digital Sound Processing (DSP), Yamaha's means of simulating the acoustics of a concert hall, movie theater, or rock concert hall in the comfort of your own home. The Cinema DSP's four programs includes Movie Dramatic, Movie Spacious, Game, and TV Sports, each of which creates an optimum sound field for a specific type of programming. The Music DSP modes, meanwhile, range from 2-Channel Stereo to Concert Hall to Roxy Theatre, the latter of which reproduces the dynamic music environment of one of L.A.'s legendary rock clubs. And, of course, the HTR-5930 handles standard processing for Dolby Digital, DTS, and Pro Logic II sources. What really makes the HTR-5930 tick, however, are the extras, such as Silent Cinema, a Yamaha-exclusive technology that lets you enjoy multichannel music or movie sound through ordinary headphones, and a night listening mode that lowers the volume during loud passages so the kids don't jolt awake after hearing explosions and other special effects from the next room. Plus, the HTR-5930 not only comes with a standard AM/FM tuner, but is also XM satellite radio ready. All you need is a separately sold XM antenna and a subscription to XM satellite radio and you're set.
Click to view the Yamaha HTR-5930's back panel. |
Additional features include a virtual surround sound mode, A or B speaker selection, a sleep timer, and a Set menu that lets you optimize the receiver to suit your individual home theater system. With a bevy of digital and analog inputs, the HTR-5930 can accommodate several digital sources such as DVD players, CD players, video game consoles, digital satellite systems, and much more. Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description The Yamaha HTR-5850 XM-ready digital hometheater receiver is a full-featured digital home theater receiver that sports some serious features. Component video-up conversion takes composite signals and converts them into a component signal. This not only ensures the highest quality video from any source, it means you only need one connection to your HDTV monitor. No more switching inputs according to your source--it can all go through the component video connection.
| Some other major features on the Yamaha HTR-5850 include 6.1-channel discrete amplification (105 w x 6 RMS) and Yamaha's Digital ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) amplifier design concept that ensures the highest signal purity, and 14 surround programs. Also featured is Silent Cinema, Yamaha's exclusive technology that allows private listening enjoyment of multichannel music or movie sound, including Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround, through ordinary headphones. The system's digital-to-analog converters use an extremely high performance 192 kHz/24-bit operation type and perform accurate sound field reproduction for high-quality multichannel sources. And for two-channel stereo, they provide outstanding separation and precise musical delineation. In addition, the HTR-5850-SL has high-quality two-channel and multichannel surround reproduction and reproduces surround for 5.1 channels and 2.1 (virtual surround). The HTR-5850 is also XM Satellite Radio ready, which means that with the addition of an XM Connect-and-Play and XM subscription, you can tune into your favorite XM broadcasts.

With 14 different sound programs that provide multiple variations, every movie and every piece of music will sound right in your home theater. Discrete power transistors, rather than chips, are used in the amplifier section to provide the cleanest sound possible. The amp delivers 105 watts each to seven channels, and the HTR-5850 can accommodate DVD, CD, MC/CDR, and digital TV/cable. Three optical digital outputs assure the finest possible signal leaving the receiver for your other components. A set of front panel A/V inputs allows for simple temporary connection. The receiver also features an AM/FM digital tuner with 40 station presets. What's in the Box HTR-5850 receiver, remote control, batteries, AM antenna, and FM antenna.
