Sales grew rapidly and soon Douwe Egberts started a wholesaling and distribution business. Dutch Honey Cake by Bolletje (12.2 ounce) by igourmet.com

By: igourmet
Our price:

Product Description

Dutch Honey Cake, or honigkoek, is a traditional recipe from Northern Europe. This dense cake has a rich, sweet flavor reminiscent of honey, cloves, molasses, and other holiday spices. This generous loaf is enough to serve several adult guests as a dessert, or for a couple to snack on throughout the week. Rather than eating the cake on its own, it is better sliced, toasted, and spread with butter (or honey butter, for those of you who like to gild the lilly). When warmed, the notes of spice and caramelized sugar make this a dessert worth savoring. For a traditional twist, top the toasted honey cake with a slice of Nokkelost or Leyden cheese, allowing the bread to warm the cheese through.

Farmer Gouda (Yellow Wax) (8 ounce) by igourmet.com

By: igourmet
Our price:

  • imported from Holland
  • cow's milk
  • semi-soft
  • suitable for cheeseboard or for melting
  • pairs well with a fruity Sauvignon Blanc

Product Description

The Dutch have been producing hand-made farmhouse Goudas for many centuries. Due to Holland's fertile soil and lush green pastures, its cows produce unusually rich milk which, in turn, leads to extra creamy cheeses. Gouda is the most famous of Dutch cheeses and is made from whole milk only. This semi-soft cheese has a creamy, yellow body with irregular holes and a natural yellow rind. For export, Goudas are always coated in red wax. But we have brought in a shipment of yellow waxed Gouda, the product intended for the European market, so you can enjoy the same rich Dutch Gouda that is enjoyed in its homeland.

Stroop Waffles (9 ounce) by igourmet.com

By: igourmet
Our price:

Product Description

A long-time favorite of adults and children in Holland, Stroop Waffles (syrup waffles) are a delicious breakfast, light snack, or the perfect pick-me-up for any time of the day! Manufactured in Holland, Stroopies are thin, crisp butter waffles with a thin layer of cinnamon flavored syrup in the center. You can eat Stroopies out of hand, but there is a bit of technique to enjoying them the traditional way.

Once you pour a piping hot cup of coffee for yourself in the morning, place a Stroopie over the mouth of the cup and take a few minutes to read your paper and let the coffee come down to sipping temperature. The steam from the coffee penetrates the Stroopie, warming the syrup in the center. Once your coffee has cooled down for a minute or so, the waffle is perfectly heated through and ready to eat on its own, or dunked in your coffee. It's a simple but relaxing way to start your day!

Beemster with Flavors - Garlic (8 ounce) by igourmet.com

By: igourmet
Our price:

Product Description

We're happy to introduce this North Holland Dutch Gouda with some new flavorful twists. Beemster has enhanced traditional Gouda with delicious spices and herbs. Some tastes are more familiar to American palates (garlic, fine herbs, and black pepper) whereas others (mustard and nettles) are delicious changes of pace. In Holland, people often spread mustard on mild cheeses to liven them up. Celebrating this tradition, Beemster with Mustard uses whole mustard seeds in its cheese. Beemster with Nettles may also be worthy of explanation. In Europe, nettles (wild herbs) are used to flavor everything from cheese to pasta sauce. These slightly bitter green herbs add interesting depth to cheese without dramatically changing its nature.

Magnasco Flavored Edam Cheese - Fine Herbs (1 pound) by igourmet.com

By: igourmet
Our price:

Product Description

At the beginning of the nineteenth century, three brothers, Luis, Fortunato and Jose Magnasco, emigrated from Santa Margherita, Italy, searching for new horizons. Their destiny was going to be in South America, specifically Argentina. Soon after arriving, they got involved with the local dairy industry's retail and production of cheese and butter. By 1855, they began their own commercial activities under the name of Magnasco Hnos. Today, the family tradition continues with the third and fourth generations running Magnasco Hnos.

Magnasco´s cows are fed all year round on a natural enviroment. The Argentine Pampas allow their cattle to feed from green pastures, even in winter. They graze freely upon the land. As a result, these natural and non-stress conditions enable them to obtain a high quality milk.Their flavored Edams are aged for two months; hard enough to grate, and make wonderful toppings for any rice, vegetable or pasta dish. Boerenkaas (8 ounce) by igourmet.com

By: igourmet
Our price:

  • One of just a few handmade Goudas
  • Made from raw milk, aged for 6 months
  • A full, tangy flavor, with much more character than any factory-made Gouda
  • Only seasonally made from May to October
  • Imported from Holland

Product Description

In modern Holland, there are few remaining farmers who still make cheese by hand on the farm. Boerenkaas is, by definition, a handmade Gouda. Creating Boerenkaas is more art than science, leveraging a tremendous amount of knowledge, tradition and skill in the process. Our Boerenkaas is only made from May to October when the weather permits the cows to stay outside and eat fresh grass. Because it is made from raw milk, this cheese has a full, tangy flavor, with much more character than any factory-made Gouda cheese could possibly match. Its six month aging period gives it even more flavor and leaves behind characteristic amino acid crystals. Enjoy with a full-bodied red wine and a hunk of fresh bread.
