During the next three months, the salt moves from chamber to chamber. In July after it has reached the eighth chamber and crystallized in its purest form, the farmers rake the salt to the edge of each bed. The salt picks up its gray color and distinctive flavor from the healthy blue-green-hued minerals in the bed's clay bottom.

Vichy Pastilles Mints - 4.4 oz.
By: Pastilles Vichy
Our price:
|
Product Description
These mints have been made in Vichy since 1828, when a local pharmacist figured out how to extract the minerals from the town's famous thermal waters. He mixed the extract with sugar and natural mint flavors, and produced the tablet. A favorite of the Empress Eugenie, the octogonal pastilles were immensely popular in the nineteenth century, not only for their reputed ability to cure heartburn but for their fresh minty flavor. The vogue for thermal waters has passed, but the candies remain, a testament of their tastiness.

Noirot Orange Flower Water from France - 8.5 fl oz
By: Noirot
Our price:
- This essential water is used in many French and Mediterranean dessert dishes
- Orange flower water is a clear, perfumed distillation of fresh bitter-orange blossoms.
- 8.5 fl oz bottle
- Retro packaging
- Imported from France
|
Product Description
This essential water has traditionally been used in many French and Mediterranean dessert dishes, but has more recently found its way into Western cuisine. For example, orange flower water is used in France to flavor madeleines, in Mexico to flavor little wedding cakes, and in the United States to make orange blossom scones. Orange flower water is also used as an ingredient in some cocktails, such as the Ramos Gin Fizz. It has been a traditional ingredient used often in Middle Eastern cooking. In the Arab world, it is frequently added to hard or otherwise bad-tasting drinking water to mask the unpleasant flavor. Orange blossoms are believed to be used in this manner because they are seen as the traditional bridal flower and, therefore, symbolize purity (white, small and delicate).

- These Calendars from Germany have a chocolate surprise behind each door representing a day of advent.

|
Product Description
The origin of the Advent Calendar can be traced back to the 19th Century. The first styles came from the Protestant area. So religious families made a chalk line for every day in December until Christmas Eve. The first known Advent Calendar which was made by handwork dates from 1851.Other early styles were the Adventclock or the Advent candle - a candle for each of the 24 days until Christmas, like todays Advent wreath. So in religious families little pictures were hang up on the wall - one for each day in December. An other tradition was to paint chalk strokes on the door, one per day until Christmas Eve.In 1902 a Christian Bookshop in Hamburg published a Christmas Clock which was very similar to that published 1922 by the St. Johannis printing company. (Dominik Wunderlin, lic.phil. Swizzerland). 1903 appears to be the year of the first printed Advent Calendar. In 1904 an Advent Calendar was inserted in the newspaper "Neues Tagblatt Stuttgart" as a gift for their readers. In the early days, Bible verses would often replace the pictures behind the doors. We know that Advent Calendars filled with Chocolate were already available in 1958.
