Named for the Dominus wines, which are a Bordeaux blend, this decanter is suitable for moderate to major aeration of Bordeaux region wines and a variety of other aged reds. The decanter has a wider base than neck in order to expedite the oxidation process. The simple yet elegantly designed Dominus Magnum decanter has a rounded base and body that slopes into a long 4-1/2-inch neck, and a slightly flared 1-1/2-inch pouring lip. A bulb-shaped stopper covers the mouth between pourings. This decanter is mouth-blown of non-lead crystal, stands 11-1/4 inches tall, is 4-1/2 inches wide at its base, and holds 31-3/4 ounces or the equivalent of one full bottle of wine. --Cristina Vaamonde

Made in Austria by the world's most renowned wineglass maker (Riedel Crystal, founded in 1756), this graceful decanter is blown from 24 percent lead crystal and holds one bottle of wine. While the most common use of a decanter is to prevent sediment in an aged red wine from spoiling the wine's clarity and brilliance, some authorities also recommend decanting young red wines to give them the opportunity to bloom. In either case, this decanter adds beauty to the dinner table. With its neck wrapped by an elongated teardrop of solid crystal, the decanter stands 12-1/4 inches high on a 2-3/4-inch-diameter base and subtly tapers outward from base to shoulder so its proportions are as perfect as the crystal. Riedel crystal is used by fine restaurants all over the world and thus must stand up to frequent trips through a dishwasher. But because lead crystal has a soft surface, Riedel recommends this decanter be hand washed. --Fred Brack
