What is that "halo" we're talking about? Halos appear when a traditional sharpening filter meets, say, a dark object on light background. In an attempt to make the image look sharper, that is, to improve local contrast along the edge, the filter makes the background area along the edge even lighter, while making the object edge darker, thus introducing colors outside original image tonal range and forming a noticeable halo along the edge.

Depending upon the EtchTone effect desired, the Filter will either Overlay the etch or Blend the etch in your continuous tone image. The etched continuous tone output resembles age-old printing. Andromeda Series 2 Three-D Luxe FilterAndromeda Series 2 Three-D Luxe Filter provides four basic 3D surfaces: sphere, cylinder, plane and box. The viewpoint, size, shape, and lighting effects can be modified, and virtually any image can be wrapped around the surface. The filter also allows the surfaces of the 3D object to have raised, colored and shaded textures, producing extremely dramatic and beautiful 3D objects. The textures can come from Andromeda's extensive library of textures, provided on the program CD, or the user's own artwork. The textures (or photos) are used to provide both the sculpting and the colorizing of the 3D surfaces. All this allows artists to produce high quality 3D art from the convenience of a Photoshop plug-in filter, without the complexity of learning to use a 3D modeling program. |

Andromeda Shadow FilterAndromeda Shadow Filter is unique because it uses a 3D geometry to cast realistic shadows. A shadow of the users input image is imposed on a casting plane that can be oriented anywhere in 3D space around the input image. Shadow has four lights that can be individually selected and oriented in the space surrounding the input image for multiple shadows. The Filter also has a virtual Camera. Andromeda Series 4 Techtures FilterAndromeda Series 4 Techtures Filter was created especially for Print, Web, and Multi-Media artists who need beauty, subtle texture and productivity when creative texturing is necessary. To infuse the look and feel of the texture onto your image, the filter processes the selected texture and the image through one of its 3 distinct texturing engine. As a bonus the Series 4 also has 2 spectacular special effect engines for adding natural and synthetic phenomena effects to your image. The Series 4 Filter contains a hand rendered library of 900 "smart" high resolution textures. Andromeda calls these smart textures "Techtures". In addition to its content, each Techture carries information on its characteristics as well, such as the highlights and shadows. Techtures are not photographs or mathematically computed textures. Each of the 900 Techtures was hand-rendered by Andromeda artists using image editing and painting applications software. Each Techture is a 300 dpi tile. Series 4 will use as many tiles as are needed to generate the texture equal to the size of your input image. As a bonus, Andromeda artists also generated a matching "Panel" and a "Weave" tile for each item in the Textures category except for BLK/WHT. The Panel and Weave tiles contain colors derived from the parent texture tile and are ideal for use as complimenting fabric textures. Series 4 Techtures Filter extends your creative texturing options with 2 Special Effect Engines: Environment engine and Maps engine The Environments engine utilizes a collection of Environment tiles (different from the hand rendered Techtures) also hand created by Andromeda artists to provide instant natural and synthetic phenomena effects such as: lighting, shades, screens, smoke, stars, explosion, shatter, etc. The Maps engine uses several hundred Displacement maps hand created by Andromeda artists (different from the hand rendered Techtures and Environment tiles) to provide effects such as: water droplets, stained glass, linear patterns, wavy patterns etc. This special effect engine has a large selection of displacement maps designed for spectacular dimensional texturing. |

Andromeda Velociraptor FilterAndromeda Velociraptor Filter takes a feature image, and smears or strobes it in any direction to create two distinct types of velocity trails, continuous smear and inverse selection. Working with these two distinct types, users can create stylized motion trails that can arc, bounce, cascade, converge, curve, decline, diminish, jolt, jitter, loop, spiral, spring, streak, trail, wave and more. Both the Continuous Smear Trail UI and the Inverted Selection Trail UI have their own method of generating trails. In the Continuous Smear Trails UI, a Bounding Box is positioned by the user over the feature to be trailed; Velociraptor uses it to define the Angle, Breadth, and Length for the velocity trail. In the Inverted Selection Trails UI you must, before entering the filter, select a feature that you want to trail; a ball, for example, then use Select / Invert - similar functionality in your host application menus). Velociraptor then knows the shape of the ball and uses the inverse selection area to generate strobed copies for the velocity trail. Inverse Selection Trails are similar to jolts, jitters or strobes. The Velociraptor filter comes with tested and installed "Presets" in both UIs. Any Preset may be selected and in a single step applied to the Preset Image. The Preset Image will be found on the original product disk. Open the Preset Image in your host application and with no selections on the image open the Velociraptor filter. Use the drop down Preset Menu to select a Preset. The Preview Window will display a spectacular trail. If you use the settings as a springboard for other images, you will need to fine tune the settings, especially by moving the point of origin to the relevant part of your image. |
