Product Description
A deceptively simple-looking tool, the BoWrench is a boon for both professional deck builders and do-it-yourselfers. The BoWench gives you a fast, one-person way to straighten decking boards. This is great, because decking material--whether redwood, cedar, or another, more exotic rot-resistant wood--is often warped, especially in 14- to 16-foot lengths. To operate the BoWrench, you simply fit the tool on a joist, swing the lever arm, and release. You can either push or pull boards into alignment, and when the handle is perpendicular, the tool locks in place, holding the board securely and leaving you free to drive nails or screws. The BoWrench is better than toenailing. Burying nails in the sides of decking to close gaps works, but it gives water more ways to enter the decking, which eventually leads to rot. With the BoWrench, you'll save time, create a longer-lasting surface, and maximize material. 100% made in the U.S.A. Patent #7,213,346. The price is for one pair. The main body is 17-7 PH stainless steel, heat treated to a spring temper and nickel plated. All of the molded parts are an engineering grade glass filled nylon. These tools will not scratch prefinished siding. The SoloSiders are the only tools on the market that allow you to change the overlap dimension in real time. When you side a house, one of the most important aspects
is to line up the siding evenly with the bottoms and and hopefuly the tops of the windows. If you don't manage to do this then the job doesn't look right. The pros actually vary the overlap to attain this. The only way you can do this with a siding installation tool (whether it works from the top or bottom) it has to be able to change the overlap dimension.
You cannot use less than 1-1/4 overlap on fiber cement siding which is code minimum, but you can sure use more, and should. When using to install LP Smartside 3/8 thick, one inch is the minimum overlap, which this tool does. We provide overlap charts with these tools for every width of siding and in 1/16 increments. Product Description
The price is for one pair.
When you set the siding on the support bar you will have an overlap of 1-1/4 1-3/8 or 1-1/2 depending on the model that you purchase. After placing a nail in the siding above the tool you just rotate the support bar 90 deg to allow the tool to be released. Their is a little ramp effect where the bar locks in above the urethane bumper allowing it to fall away from the plank It works pretty slick. It definitely will
not pop off the wall while hammering a nail. You can open the support bar and fudge the plank down 1/8" but that would be max. Can be used on siding up to 3/8"
thick.
The tools will support fiber cement siding on a windy day (25 mph) but we have not tested this on a piece of siding over 8 inches.
Instead of using a 1-1/4 siding gauge in conjunction with a facing gauge which are basicaly setting the same overlap, try using our 1-1/2 overlap gauge. This will allow you to push the board up approximately 1/4" assuring the correct exposure.
