Basic match types include singles, tag team, triple threat, handicap, and cage matches. WWF novelty bouts such as King of the Ring, Royal Rumble, and ironman matches are also included. Users can select from a variety of rules, including time limits, count outs, pinning victories, submission victories, and hard-core rules. The action takes place in six arenas that mimic the various WWF television shows and pay-per-view events. Best of all, the game supports a link cable, allowing up to four players to participate in the mayhem. The gameplay is surprisingly deep. The simple controls allow for more than 40 moves, including signature finishers. When each wrestler enters the ring his theme music plays to a slick video montage, much like it does on the WWF TitanTron. Unfortunately, the music that plays during the action will get on your nerves. The character models are good, but the animation is a little off, making the wrestlers move in a jerky fashion. Also detracting from the game's flow are moments when the opponent's artificial intelligence seems to blank out, making him stand around for a few seconds. That said, these flaws are relatively minor compared to the depth and variety that's packed into this cartridge. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 doesn't look or play quite like its other incarnations, but the amount of death-defying--or serious injury-defying--tricks you can pull off, and the wild level design, graphics, and responsive controls all work amazingly well for the handheld. With an overhead isometric view and its use of only four buttons, Hawk vets will need to readjust their attacks. Still, we were amazed by how many tricks have been crammed into this cartridge. For the most part, the visuals are clear and detailed and the skaters are incredibly well animated. Gameplay hasn't changed much. Initially, there are six levels available (more are unlocked as rewards). After picking a skater, you must perform tricks and locate items to earn loot for buying new gear, which will enable you to improve your skater's stats and continue to the next skate park. The game is sadly without some of the cooler features of the big consoles. For example, you cannot create parks or skaters, and multiplay is sorely missed. The feeling of accomplishment one gets when perfectly landing a stunt is just as satisfying on the GBA as it is on the PS One and Dreamcast versions. Move while punching and deliver an uppercut or a short jab. There's almost no sense of damage as you hit these poorly animated foes, and this takes all the personality out of the game. There are 11 characters total, some favorites from the original games and two new unlockable ones, including Michael Buffer as Rumble Man (yawn) and... Michael Jackson? There are four modes of play: arcade style, championship, training, and survival (where you've got to fight each opponent until you go down flat). You can create your own boxer if you like, and participate in a few training rituals, such as using rumble pads, lifting weights, and hitting the speed bag. What Ready to Rumble 2 amounts to is a perfectly good, and great-looking, Game Boy Color game, but it doesn't do justice to boxing. It isn't nearly as good as Ready to Rumble on other platforms, and it just doesn't fit in with the other, mostly fantastic, GBA launch titles. --Andrew S. Bub Pros: - A wide range of combatants
