- The onscreen action stays exciting, with over 680 fully 3D-rendered monsters
- Battle across a dozen locations throughout Europe, and duel head-to-head with friends in multiplayer mode
- Includes 3 Exclusive Limited Edition Trading Card Game cards
|
Product Description
Like the Pokémon games, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelists of the Roses is essentially a computerized trading-card game. Unlike Pokémon, however, Duelists of the Roses is distinguished by a peculiar historical-fiction context and a startlingly steep learning curve. Yu-Gi-Oh newbies be forewarned: This game is better suited for die-hard fans. Not only does the story of Duelists of the Roses stray from the Egyptian setting of the cartoon show, it strays into a fictional history of the War of the Roses, a 15th-century civil war for the English throne. In this version of events, the war was fought with cards, not swords and bows, and series-protagonist Yugi is actually Henry VII. There are lots more real and adapted history in the game, but it's really just stage dressing for a series of card battles. Players can choose to fight for the side of Yugi and the house of Lancaster or for the Rival house of York. Either choice leads to different opponents and cut-scenes along the way. The gameplay itself falls between the simplicity of rock-paper-scissors and the complexity of chess. Players blindly deal monsters off a deck against what your opponent pulls, and the stronger monster wins the hand--and the winning opponent gets the balance of points between the winning and losing cards from the losing player. When a combatant's life points are gone, the game is over. Duelists of the Roses introduces a leader card to the game, which players use to store their life points and to earn special abilities. Also new is a terrain map that will influence the power of the cards being drawn. For example, pulling a water monster near the ocean will pack more power than a fire monster. What makes the game so hard is that the computer opponent is an ultimate master of the game's many arcane rules and the in-game tutorial is a little rushed. The game is forgiving to losers; one needs simply to try the battle again and hope for better luck. The graphics and sound are a little disappointing, but it is the first time we've seen these card monsters in 3-D. --Porter B. Hall
Product Description
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelists of the Roses features all of your favorite characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh! animated TV series. The new card-movement battle system encourages strategic gameplay, while 680 beautifully rendered 3-D monsters keep the onscreen action exciting and engaging. The game includes three exclusive trading cards.

Product Description
The Sims is one of the world's most popular PC games, and now it's coming to your Playstation 2!
Product Description
The Sims has much in common with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater: There's a great emphasis trial and error, it encourages personalized solutions to problems, and overall success comes down to both balance and timing. Also, like the Tony Hawk games, The Sims is a very addictive game. Players micromanage the lives of a family of virtual people and influence the outcome of their lives, be it success or something akin to a nervous breakdown. The bestselling PC version of the game has, in recent years, been upgraded with elements like parties, pets, and vacations, but this iteration is closer to the basic formula. You start the game living with Mom in a one-story suburban house. You are immediately presented with certain life tasks, such as fixing the TV and making lunch, which are aligned with the skills you'll need for the game's main challenge--keeping your sims in balance on eight conflicting categories. For example, eating will have an impact on your sim's hunger rating, but it will also impact his bladder rating. You'll have to make sure that he keeps himself and the house clean, that he sleeps to restore his energy, and that he also has time to keep himself entertained. The free will option lets your sims coast a bit, and you can also save time by stacking tasks together. Time passes at the rate of about one minute per second in the game, but you can fast-forward sim time when you need to, such as when they're sleeping. The controls are justifiably complex, but adjusting to them is not difficult. You see your sims from an overhead perspective that you can both rotate and zoom. You direct their actions by moving a line cursor to where you want them to go or to what object or person with which you want them to interact. The game is surprisingly funny. Neglect your sims and they'll shout and wave their arms to get your attention. Allow one's energy to get too low and he or she will likely collapse and sleep right where they were standing. When that happens, Mom is likely to serve them dinner on the floor. Gamers may find that it takes a while to get the hang of The Sims' style and control scheme. Stick with it and you may find real time fast-forwarding by. --Porter B. Hall Pros: - Interesting, open-ended gameplay
- Lots of quirky humor
- Two-player split-screen option
Cons: - Can be frustrating for those unfamiliar with strategy games
- Controls take some getting used to
- Long save times

Product Description
Grandia II marks the return of GameArts' classic franchise. Offering a wide array of characters, a deep and involving storyline and a combat system above and beyond all others, Grandia II harnesses the power of the PlayStation 2. You'll interact with hundreds of characters as you work to stop the rebirth of Valmar, the God of Darkness. Watch as the story unfolds through cinematic cut-scenes with voice-over. Grandia II is an RPG of epic proportions that no serious gamer should miss.
Product Description
See if this story line sounds familiar. You're part of an outcast mercenary class that upstanding folk don't want around until there's trouble. You're sent on a mission alongside an innocent, idealistic woman with whom you don't immediately get along. Forces of darkness, safely contained until recently, have escaped and are threatening a world-ending clash with the forces of light unless you successfully intercede. This is one of the safest templates for console role-playing games, and it pretty much covers the story in Grandia II. Thankfully, everything else in the game is fresh and provides hours upon hours of fun. The backdrops and character designs are colorful without being flashy, the game has a great pace (for an RPG), and players never have to stand around too long looking for the next thing to do. Even the writing, within its cookie-cutter plot, is smart, well translated, and occasionally funny. The game's strongest element, however, is its battle system. Taking the best of turn-based and real-time battle engines, Grandia II forces you to choose your moves carefully with respect to timing and position. The battles are very simple in the beginning, but grow increasingly complex as you fight larger numbers of monsters with a growing party of allies. How you meet your encounters--whether you initiate the fight, are ambushed, or meet head on--affects both the timing of the blows and the positions of the contestants. Battles emphasize counterattacks and combination blows, but you'll soon find that movement and defense keep you alive against the tougher enemies. Elemental magic, items, and skill books are just icing on the cake. Even if the battles do grow old, the random fights are fairly easy to avoid, and a versatile AI option lets you use cruise control through the rest. Grandia II may be just the traditional role-playing game for which Dreamcast owners have been waiting. The question of whether it's too traditional doesn't matter, as it offers a better experience than most that have come before. --Porter B. Hall Note: This review refers to the Dreamcast version of the game. Pros: - Battle system creates interesting, complex fights
- Solid, traditional role-playing game for a system with few others in the genre
Cons: - Predictable plot and characters
Product Description
Your name is Ryudo, and you've been sent to protect a young priestess journeying to a distant land to participate in a special ceremony. Grandia II, the new story-based RPG, features an innovative battle system that is partially turn-based, partially real-time. The entire world of Grandia II is rendered in 3-D, with over 1,000 characters to interact with. Audio voice-overs accompany cinematic cutscenes and serve to reinforce the strong cast of characters.

This is the game Kessen for the Playstation 2. This game may not come with the original case and instructions. We stand by our products and offer a 60 day guarantee. If a game does not work within 60 days from the time you receive it we will gladly exchange it for you.
Product Description
Kessen is the first DVD PlayStation2 title--boy, what a difference a DVD-ROM makes! Kessen's fantastic cutscenes showcase the difference between the visual capabilities of non-DVD and DVD formats. That difference is analogous to the gap between analog television and HDTV quality. The graphics are awesome, too. In a triple barrage, three rows of gunmen draw and fire their guns. Not everyone does it at exactly the same time, and the number of men goes back as far as the eye can see. The smart choreography makes the battle seem much more real. In fact, you actually can see other soldiers fighting as the generals duel. The game's orchestral score is wonderful, and the sound effects also are great, with booming cannons, neighing horses, and clanking spears. While all of the above makes for a very splashy presentation, it doesn't do much for the gameplay. Those who have found fault in the micromanagement of past Koei strategy titles surely will be disappointed with Kessen. It's often painful to see every single stat and try to improve them all in a set amount of time. Kessen goes too far in that every battalion has a morale level, called zeal, as well as a certain number of soldiers of different types. Each general has a different amount of loyalty to you, but it really doesn't affect gameplay, as far as we could tell. Before each battle, you go through the political stage. Here, you can persuade undecided generals or enemy generals to join you in battle, or not to fight at all. That's a cool aspect, but the game basically tells you outright who will join you and who won't. The pace of the battles is extremely slow, like in most other Koei games. However, the difficulty is not. Many times, you're given so many reinforcements that you just can't lose. Also, every single event involves a 20-second cutscene, with no obvious way to skip these. Sure, the triple barrage is impressive the first few times that you see it; but, after the 100th time, it wears a little thin. And you get to see a cutscene every time that your enemies do the same to you. Unlike other RTS games, there's hardly ever any cause for alarm or stress--even if you're losing, you feel like there's not a lot you could do about it, anyway. --Todd Mowatt Pros: - Fantastic cutscenes showcase the visual capabilities of DVD format
- Great graphics, score, and sound effects
Cons: - Too many statistics to manage
- Slow game pace
