In this tutorial, I will show you how the Knife Tool can be used effectively. It's not the easiest tool to understand, and I'm hoping when you do this exercise that some of the mystery will disappear.
Go to your Symbol Roll Up and get the Eye, #78, from the Webdings font.
Arrange | Break Apart the eye and add color to the different pieces. You will probably have to put the large part of the eye Arrange | Order | To Back and you may have to arrange some of the other pieces so you can see them all.
Click on your Knife tool. I have color coded my cuts to make it easier for you. Activate each section as you make the cuts. Make the first cut on the shape outlined in green, the second cut outlined in yellow, the third cut outlined in brown, the fourth cut outlined in red and the fifth cut outlined in blue. Be sure you put the two brown cuts on each side of the eyeball. If the cuts don't work the first time, try it from a different direction or a different order.
Click off the eye and individually delete the top pieces.
Bring a Guideline to the top of the eye and activate Snap To Guidelines. Using your Shape (Node Editing) tool, clean up the top of the line and Arrange | Group your eye.
If for some reason you need the eye cut in half the other way, follow the same instructions. You won't need to cut the piece outlined in blue.
