What is a Seamless Texture?

A seamless texture simply means copies of the texture can be tiled infinitely without having any seams visible. Some will call them bitmap patterns, seamless patterns, tiled backgrounds or seamless tiles among a long list of names. At right is an example of a terrain pattern with four individual seamless tiles. We have purposely moved the lower right piece so that you can see how the pieces fit together. Notice how the pattern edges blend perfectly with the piece next to it. This allows you to fill any sized area with the texture of your choice.

Using Seamless Textures

You can use them for Web page backgrounds, desktop backgrounds or the background of a flyer. They can be used to fill any graphic object of any size without seeing any seams! We even supply high-resolution versions so you can use them for the background of a billboard or to fill large areas of vehicle wraps. Anywhere you want to fill an area with a textured pattern, you can use a seamless texture.

Most popular graphics software supports use of seamless textures. That includes Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, Xara Designer Pro and more. It can also be used in 3D software such as Cinema 4D, Bryce 3D, 3DS Max, Lightwave 3D and more. Where Do I Get High-Quality Seamless Textures?

The Graphics Unleashed Media Marketplace offers more than a thousand seamless textures available for individual sale. Click on the category of texture you desire and browse through the available textures. Most of the textures will include four sizes in the downloaded package: 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024 and 2048x2048 pixels. This gives everyone a size that meets the needs of their project.

Collections of seamless tiles are also available for purchase on a DVD-ROM. Each of the collections is listed below with a link to purchase and a link to a page with product details. As these are provided to you on a DVD-ROM, they will be shipped to you and are not available as a download.
